It operates based on the difference in thermodynamic properties between steam and condensate, mainly using pressure and velocity changes.
Working PrincipleThe thermodynamic steam trap typically uses a disc mechanism:
- When condensate enters the trap, it lifts the disc and allows discharge.
- As steam reaches the trap, its high velocity and pressure create a low-pressure zone above the disc.
- This forces the disc down onto the seat, closing the trap and preventing steam loss.
- Once the steam condenses and pressure drops, the disc lifts again, and the cycle repeats.
